What’s in it for me?” Well, let me tell you, this is where things get fun! In “Fire Emblem: Awakening,” you get to be a part of Chrom’s elite unit, The Shepherds. Virion is the former duke of Rosanne, a fallen country in Valm. He also appears as a major character in the spin off Tokyo Mirage Session FE. He is a secretive noble from a land he refuses to name. So you’re thinking, “Great, a dragon soap opera with political undertones. Virion is a playable character from Fire Emblem Awakening. THE SHEPHERDS: A SMALL GROUP WITH A BIG MISSION And right in the middle is Prince Chrom, leader of a group named The Shepherds, bent on unraveling insidious plots from their less-than-friendly neighbors. Their rival, Plegia, is a Grima-worshipping, violence-admiring kingdom. Fast forward to modern times, Archanea is fractured into three competitive nations, including Ylisse, governed by Martha’s peace-loving descendants and devout Naga followers. Marth, a hero armed with a sword, ended Grima’s malevolence, unifying the Archanea continent and claiming his throne. You can also view back-stories in the Barracks, and the amazing thing is every character (there’s a lot) has some sort of small introduction.Millennia ago, the world was plunged into a shadowy era due to a duel of titanic proportions between two dragons: Naga, the dragon championing humanity, and Grima, the harbinger of doom. When you’re waiting for your next mission and exploring the world map, you can access a host of options, like party conversations (think Dragon Age), party management and the like. While most SRPGs tend to have these options, Awakening offers more than most, and it’s extremely welcome. Each skirmish in combat can be either speed up by holding the “A” button, or skipped entirely by pressing “Start” - so you don’t have to watch every single fight painstakingly play out.
